Editor's note: the annual "National Night Out Against Crime" returns next week. Here's the press release from the West Sacramento Police Department. It includes the list of participating residential blocks & streets.
Many of the locations will get visits from police, firefighters, military representatives. In the past, mascots such as "Dinger from the River Cats" and "McGruff the Crime Dog" have shown up. This year's "featured" site will be at 1600 Madrone, with special festivities at 7:30 p.m.

National Night Out is right around the
corner-Tuesday August 2, 2011.
The West
Sacramento Police Department will be participating in this important community
event to send a message of zero-tolerance of drugs and violence in
neighborhoods throughout West Sacramento.
You are cordially invited to stop by and visit the following
neighborhoods listed below: The parties
will start at 6:00 p.m. and end around 9:30 p.m.
National Night Out is designed to (1)
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and
participation in, local anti crime efforts. (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit
and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized
and fighting back. Neighborhoods in
West Sacramento will host parties, cookouts, and youth activities to celebrate
this worthwhile event.
