A sample of police calls for the prior week in West Sacramento:
August 6, 4:17 p.m.
Police stopped a man in a car near Delaware and 19th – and found him to have a felony warrant for $30,000. The man was jailed.
Aug. 6, 9:50 p.m.
A police officer conducted a traffic stop near Sacramento Avenue and Simon Terrace. During a search of the car, a bag of methamphetamine was found. The woman was arrested and booked into Yolo County jail.
Aug. 7, daytime
Someone spray-painted a swastika and a pair of lightning stripes on one vehicle parked on Touchstone Place. Two other vehicles were also vandalized.
Aug. 7, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Officers visited a number of neighborhoods participating in the ‘National Night Out’ festivities.
Aug. 8, 3:10 a.m.
A suspect entered a store on Jefferson Blvd. and demanded that the clerk sell beer, after 2 a.m. in violation of an ordinance. The clerk refused, but the suspect pulled out a knife and stole some cigarettes. He was not located – last seen on Vermont.
Aug. 8, 1:15 a.m.
Firefighters and police responded to the report of a large stack of hay bales on fire near Southport Parkway and Otis. The cause of the fire was “suspicious” but undetermined. The fire was allowed to burn itself out.
Aug. 7, 3:47 a.m.
A male subject went to the home of his girlfriend’s father on Sacramento Avenue. He got into a physical altercation with the man, brandished a knife and stabbed the father. The father stabbed the suspect in return. The suspect and his girlfriend then went to a nearby trailer, where the man became combative with the girlfriend, and demanded cash, at knifepoint, from a friend of hers. He fled the scene when police arrived, but was caught. He and male victim were treated for injuries. Detectives and crime scene technicians were called out.
Aug. 8, afternoon/evening
A man was arrested for stealing copper wire from a major Riverpoint-area retail store.
Aug. 8, night shift
Police received the reports of two vehicle burglaries on the 600-block of Andrew Street. A victim saw a suspect burglarizing her vehicle. When she confronted him, he displayed a knife and threatened her. He was scene fleeing to a house. Officers found him there, and he was positively identified as the suspect.
Aug. 9, afternoon/evening
A woman was seen driving a vehicle reported stolen out of Richmond. She was arrested in the parking lot of a Harbor Blvd.-area store.
Aug. 9, night shift
Officers “surveiled” a reported stolen vehicle from Chico, parked at a Halyard Drive motel. They saw a man and woman get into it and attempt to drive away. The police conducted a vehicle stop and took both people into custody without incident.
Aug. 10, daytime
Officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving picketers at a Stillwater Road business. Picketers were blocking access to a business. Officers mediated the situation.
Aug. 10, afternoon/evening
Police received a call that a subject was in duress in the Sacramento River. The caller said her mother had phoned, saying the caller’s brother had threatened to kill himself. The man’s vehicle was found by the levee. A Sacramento police helicopter conducted a search. A diving rescue team was summoned, and searched in the river for about an hour. All units cleared the scene after an unsuccessful search. At about 11:30 p.m., the caller called again, reporting the man was safe: he had swum across the river to a restaurant and bar.
Aug. 10, night shift
Police were called to a Sacramento hospital regarding a report of battery. The victim was being treated in the emergency room for brain trauma. The victim’s wife said her husband had been outside their home, drinking, when she heard what sounded like an altercation. She went outside and found him on the ground. He was unable to speak or provide information. Officers went to the scene but found no evidence or witnesses.
Aug. 10, night shift
Police received information that a methamphetamine dealer on the 800-block of Pine Street was driving a stolen vehicle and carrying a handgun. A stolen vehicle was indeed located in the parking lot, and a surveillance was begun. When the vehicle drove away, police stopped it and detained two subjects. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded, stolen .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the front seat of the vehicle. The male suspect admitted to having the handgun concealed on his person at the time of the stop. The man and woman were arrested on several felony charges.
Aug. 11, daytime
Police had impounded a vehicle on Aug. 8 but were unable to confirm it was stolen. Today, the owner came to the station and reported it stolen. Officers went back to the suspect’s house and arrested him for vehicle theft.
Aug. 12, 6:58 p.m.
Officers contacted a man during a vehicle stop at Garnet Street and West Capitol Avenue. The man consented to a search. Officers found marijuana and hashish in his backpack. The man was placed under arrest and jailed.
